The USA Men's 7s team finished 0-3 on Day One of the Glasgow 7s, after losing their final pool play game of Saturday 34-14 to Australia.
The teams were fairly evenly-matched early on and were tied 7-7 five minutes in, with Garrett Brewer scoring the USA's try.
But Australia controlled the rest of the game on the USA only scored their second try - courtesy of Will Holder - with 30 seconds to go.
The Eagles will face Samoa in the Bowl Quarterfinals. In the grand scheme of things this result means little. The USA had hoped to stay ahead of Spain and Portugal in the standings, which they will do, and also wanted to catch Scotland, but that won't happen as Scotland made the top eight.
